Christmas 1989 - TMNT Trading Cards

Published on 29 December 2022 at 12:42

TMNT first started out in comic books back in 1984 and by 1987 the first animated series was on TV. Every kid was watching it on Saturday mornings, myself included.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were first featured on Topps trading cards in 1989.  The 1989 collection was released in two series.

The complete set is 188 total. There are 88 cards in Series 1 and 88 cards in Series 2. Both sets have 1 sticker per pack - a total of 11 stickers per series. Series 1 has a shell icon for the number with green font while Series 2 has a pizza slice for the number and black border.

The Turtle cards were not just a great thing for kids to have and trade at school, but adults were also collecting them as investments.

The Turtle trading cards were one of the sets that helped get Topps out of their huge debt.

Topps created TMNT cards for several years and then brought them back again in 2019.

The colored photos are the two unopened packs I have in my collection.
